We would like to thank journalist Eloísa Reverón, who, in an article in the newspaper El Día, highlighted the work of CSIRT-CAN in the fight against cyberattacks: "Thanks to the membership of CSIRT-CAN, Santa Cruz is positioning itself as a local administration better prepared to face the challenges of the digital age".
According to this report in El Día, the Santa Cruz City Council has received a total of 54,816 malicious emails. Many were classified as containing virus messages, identity theft, phishing, and malware, including more than 5,000 emails with threats related to the municipal email system.
40% of these threats are related to credential theft, with the aim of hijacking the data of city council members and negotiating million-euro ransoms. These extortion methods are increasingly common in Spain, and the Canary Islands are no exception. Protecting local entities is essential to continue safeguarding the interests of citizens.
We're moving forward!
